Bergen Hall Obituary: Columbia, SC – In Loving Memory of a Cherished Community Member
Columbia, SC – We remember Bergen Hall, a beloved member of our community whose kindness, warmth, and dedication touched countless lives. Bergen passed away peacefully at his home on July 19, 2025, at the age of 68. Born in Columbia on March 2, 1957, he was the cherished son of the late Margaret and Thomas Hall, and a devoted brother, husband, father, and friend.
Early Life & Community Roots
Bergen grew up in Columbia’s historic Shandon neighborhood, where he forged lifelong friendships and developed a deep commitment to local service. After graduating from Columbia High School (1975), he pursued a degree in History from the University of South Carolina, graduating in 1979. Bergen’s love for learning inspired him to later volunteer as a guest lecturer at USC, sharing his passion with students.
Career & Civic Contributions
Bergen built a successful career in public relations, beginning at a local ad agency before founding Hall & Associates in 1990. His agency supported countless Columbia businesses, nonprofits, and civic initiatives, promoting cultural events, charity fundraisers, and downtown revitalization projects.
A pillar of the community, Bergen volunteered with the South Carolina Children’s Hospital Foundation and served on the board of the Columbia Arts Council, where he helped usher in new public art installations and youth programs.
Family & Personal Life
In 1982, Bergen married Elaine Parker, his high school sweetheart. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Alyssa, now a teacher, and Christopher, a civil engineer. Bergen adored family gatherings—especially Sunday barbecues on their backyard patio, where stories and laughter flowed freely.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, cheering on the Gamecocks, and participating in local cycling events supporting youth literacy.
Legacy & Funeral Arrangements
Bergen Hall will be deeply missed by his wife of 43 years, Elaine Hall, his children Alyssa Wells (Mark) and Christopher Hall (Jasmine), his grandchildren Caleb and Emma, his sister Norma Reese (Derrick), and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
He is also preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Thomas Hall.
