Iris Salmeron Accident: 4 Killed in Fiery Crash on 605 Freeway in Norwalk, CA – Woman Arrested for DUI

Norwalk, CA – A horrific crash on the 605 Freeway early Sunday morning has left four people dead and two others injured, including the alleged driver responsible for the collision. The tragic incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. on July 20, 2025, in the southbound lanes just north of Rosecrans Avenue.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) spokesperson Officer Zachary Salazar, 26-year-old Iris Salmeron of Bellflower, California, was behind the wheel of a Kia traveling southbound when she crashed into a stalled Nissan that had just been involved in a separate minor collision with a CHP vehicle.

The Nissan, disabled from the earlier incident, was stranded in a live lane of traffic when Salmeron’s vehicle struck it with significant force. The impact caused the Nissan to erupt in flames, tragically killing all four occupants inside. Their identities have not been released pending family notification.

Salmeron and her passenger were both rushed to the hospital with major injuries. Authorities believe that Salmeron was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was later arrested and is expected to be booked on multiple felony charges, including DUI causing injury and DUI causing injury with a blood alcohol content of 0.08% or higher.

“This is a devastating and entirely preventable tragedy,” said Officer Salazar. “Our officers are working diligently to investigate the circumstances, but ultimately, this is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of impaired driving.”

As of Sunday morning, all southbound lanes of the 605 Freeway between Firestone Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue remained closed, with traffic diverted as investigators continued their work at the scene.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to contact the CHP Santa Fe Springs Office. The investigation into the fatal crash remains active and ongoing.
